Script Doctoring

A screenplay, no matter how well along it is in development, may need an objective ‘outside-the-box’ gaze and a polish by another writer to maximize its full story potential.

I provide hands-on script doctor re-writing on screenplays and teleplays to assist you in achieving the highest professional level possible. Working behind the scenes in this capacity, my efforts are always un-credited.

Script doctoring can serve a number of important functions:

  1. Improve your characters’ dialogue.

  2. Reduce your page count if it’s too long, yet retain the entire story and all its components.

  3. Strengthen the description of an action scene or sequence to increase clarity and dramatic tension.

  4. Strengthen the writing of the ‘business’ to create a stronger and clearer visual image in a reader’s mind.

  5. Improve your screen story’s tone, especially if it’s a comedy. My years of performing and teaching improv an sketch comedy provides me with an ear for what’s funny – another playful obsession of mine. That said, what’s funny is highly subjective and entirely personal, making it the most challenging of tones to get right.

  6. Help perfect an ending – what an audience walks away with and remembers.

  7. Assist ESL screenwriters in creating a highly polished, professional quality English language version of the screenplay or teleplay. This is essential for a written property to garner interest from potential co-producing English language speaking partners, as well as broadcasters, sales agents, distributors and casting and talent agents.

In this scenario, I can work hands-one with the writer(s) and the creative team as well as their translator. If need be, I can source and provide a translator as part of the service package.
